What is Shiatsu?

SHIATSU comes from Japan; the treatments are based above all on restoring the body's energetic balance.

A person's energetic potential is referred to as "Qi" and is meant to flow evenly along defined pathways (meridians) that lie beneath the skin. These pathways supply and sustain the body's organs. Following the rules of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), a treatment concept (see a little further below) and a diagnosis are developed.

Shiatsu

A treatment lasts about 40 to 50 minutes (less for children) and simply feels wonderful.

The basis for a diagnosis according to the rules of TCM is formed by symptoms and abdominal and back diagnosis. The outward appearance based on TCM criteria – such as smell, posture, the sound of the voice and the client's movements, as well as the tongue, which is likewise regarded as a reflection of the energetic state. An assessment is made based on the size, shape, colour, texture and coating of the tongue. Also taken into account are appetite, digestion, sleep and temperature perception.

Taken together, the criteria mentioned above produce a diagnosis from which the further treatment follows and on the basis of which a strategy is developed. That this results in an individual treatment for each person goes without saying.

Explanatory models from TCM often make it possible to recognise complaints at a stage when they cannot yet be detected by technical procedures. SHIATSU is therefore a wonderful preventive measure for everyone, whether young or old.

Alongside the manual stimulation of acupuncture points and meridians through finger pressure (SHI = finger, ATSU = pressure) as well as pressure with the heels of the hands, elbows and feet, while you lie comfortably clothed on a futon, treatment also includes heat applications with moxa, dietary recommendations, in some cases cupping, and suggestions in the form of exercises you carry out yourself or changes to your lifestyle. Over the course (5 to 10 treatments), I therefore often give guidance on improving your way of life as support, so that you know how to promote your body's health yourself.

In 1992 I came into contact with Far Eastern healing methods for the first time. Their effect, which to this day is often hard to explain scientifically but is unmistakable, quickly impressed me through many positive experiences.
